Last weekend twenty five youth and eight adults enjoyed a back-to- school
retreat at Sequoyah State Park. The Wednesday night service invites you
and your family to come to this youth oriented worship. A light supper is
served at 6:00 followed by worship at 6:30 pm. led by youth director Marcia
Martin. "Straight
Backs and Rekindled Dreams" was the title of Pastor Marilynn's
message. Scripture readings were Psalm 71: 1-6 and Luke 13: 10-17.
What is life without hope? Is life full of despair? Our hope should
be in Jesus Christ. Somedays we wonder where God is. He hasn't left
us, we have left him. In Luke 13, a woman goes to the synagogue knowing
that Jesus can heal her stooped back that she has had for eighteen long
years. He does and she leaves praising him. Everyone has both
physical and emotional burdens. Jesus will lift our burdens up.
There is tomorrow, there is today, there is a lifetime ahead of us with Jesus
Christ. In the periods of despair, there is a rainbow. We need
to look for them. Look for the good in others. Jesus asks us to
take the burdens from each other. This is what our journey is, what the
body of Christ is about. Are you willing to take someone's hand and walk
with them? Share the grace of God, love and compassion. Look for
the rainbows and look to the heavens. You will be renewed in the spirit
of love and understanding with Jesus Christ. Sunday
August 29, from 2-5 pm. come and go, the congregation will be celebrating
at the parsonage. The United Methodist Women will be hosting an
appreciation time for Ruth Stratton. She is currently and has been
Cookson United Methodist Church's organist for forty years this October.
Thank you Ruth for sharing your talents, dedication and faithfullness in
worship at Cookson United Methodist Church.
